Meet Our Staff

Lauren Rice

Hometown: Washington, DC

Lauren spent the early years of her career in direct service and education, spending years in non-profits big and small across the DC metro area. During that time her organization became one of Elevate’s clients and after seeing the importance of having staff
who understood both the programmatic side on your fundraising team, she transitioned into the development field to help local, national, and international nonprofits raise funds to continue their work. She’s excited to come full circle and be part of the Elevate team that started it all!

Lauren continues to stay engaged with the local community through multiple volunteer roles.
She volunteers for the Smithsonian Associates helping to host events at museums throughout
the year and is as a committee member and volunteer coordinator for the Japanese American
Society of Washington’s Sakura Matsuri. She has a Master of Arts in Public Anthropology with
an emphasis on Linguistics and Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology both from
American University.

In her free time, she is often sewing, reading, or hiking. She also enjoys traveling in search of a
new favorite food.

What is your hidden talent?

I'm actually really good at packing and moving. It's not fun, but I've perfected the process so it rarely takes more than a day.

What punctuation mark would you be and why?

The em dash. They're versatile, but you don't often see them.

What is your grammatical pet peeve?

None! It's fun to see how much flexibility there is in language to change what is written, but still convey the same meaning when spoken.

What is your favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

Drinking wine after hiking all morning
