Chris Flood

Director
Hometown: Albuquerque, NM

Chris made his first successful fundraising pitch almost thirty years ago and comes to Elevate with decades of nonprofit development and leadership experience. He most recently worked for a global environmental justice network, fundraising and capacity-building for member organizations trying to mitigate climate change, reduce plastic pollution, and enact zero waste systems. He has prior experience as an executive director and has helped organizations develop strategic plans, fundraising strategies, and internal systems.

Having recently opened his eyes to the atrocities of factory farming, Chris has become a vegan and wants to see the end of this horrific practice as soon as possible. He earned his Masters in City and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania and his BA from Swarthmore College.

Chris owns an obsessively and overly curated tabletop game collection. He is a sometimes aspiring game designer who currently gets his design fix through the creation of Magic: the Gathering cubes. He has a lifelong goal of visiting all of the U.S. National Parks and pretty much finished phase one (visiting all parks outside of Alaska) a long time ago. He has not started on phase two.

What is your hidden talent?

My partner says I'm really good at explaining the rules to board games...but she also says I'm really good at doing dishes, driving while she snuggles with our puppies, and various other talents I never knew I had.

What punctuation mark would you be and why?

I would probably be a semicolon; it feels like a super comma, and I always wanted to be a superhero.

What is your grammatical pet peeve?

Please stop adding a comma before dependent clauses in complex sentences! (For example, this is WRONG: "He started to read the sentence, and then got really annoyed for some reason.")

What is your favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

Going on a hike!
